About 10 000 years ago, the Aboriginal populations started inhabiting BC about the time when the glaciers started retreating.

The first people in BC probably traveled from Asia via great land bridge that crossed the Bering Sea. The forests advanced as the ice moved back and the varying sea levels exposed the temporary bridge from Asia to North America.Prior to European arrival, BC’s first nations population may have neared 300 000. Until 1778 their way of life remained undisturbed until the arrival of the British.

Hot Springs Cove

Hot Springs Cove, situated in Maquinna Provincial Park, is a natural hotspring lying on the isolated northern tip of Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island. The park is difficult to get to being reachable by boat or water taxi, but it is worth the effort.

From the pier, you will hike along a raised, 2 kilometer-long boardwalk that winds between the trees.

Skookum Savary, a semi-circular island close to Powell River, has been, by some, Canada’s South Sea Isle. In the summer months this island, undoubtedly offers the warmest water on the West Coast of Canada. This quiet island is also home to one of the largest arbutus trees in BC, taking about 6 people to fully encircle the trunk.

Reachable by water taxi, from the small town of Lund, north of Powell River, Savary proves to be one of British Columbia’s Hidden Gems.

The mall is connected by a skyway to the Metrotown Station on the Skytrain system. Two office buildings are part of the complex, with a third set to break ground in mid 2008.
